Adult Sailing Committee

The Adult Sailing Committee provides opportunities for all members of the Rockport Boat Club to enjoy being on the water and to expand their sailing and seamanship skills.  We do this by maintaining a small fleet of vessels and through members who contribute their muscle, time, and skills

If you have questions or ideas or want to volunteer, please reach out to Merritt Carlton (merrittcarlton41@gmail.com) or Corey Stone (coreystone@sbcglobal.net).

The Adult Sailing Committee’s primary responsibilities are preparing the 3 keel boats, managing them and their use by Club members during the sailing season; and preparing  for Winter storage. Pre-season preparations include removing the cover, cleaning and waxing the topsides, touching up the bottom paint and putting a maintenance coat on the bright work. Once they have been trucked to the harbor, we step and tune the mast, hank on the sails and make sure all of the safety equipment is aboard and in good condition. We also launch the inflatable and make sure both engines are fully fueled and ready for use.

The Keel Boat Captains are responsible for overseeing their use on a weekly basis throughout the sailing season. They make sure that all vessels and their dinghy are adequately fueled and in safe operating condition. In the Fall, the Committee decommissions the keel boats and their dinghy, and prepares them for storage. This includes removing sails, unstepping the mast, winterizing motors, hauling, and setting-up for storage.

Club members are encouraged to assist with these important tasks. The provisional schedule of activities includes: the first Saturday in June for pre-season preparation, plus one week-day morning for launching; weekly management during the sailing season and; one week-day morning in September for decommissioning.
