The Fleet Committee’s principal mission is to support the Youth Sailing Program by maintaining the sailing fleet in top condition. Members also work with the Youth Sailing Program instructors to ensure they are refreshed in the proper rigging and tuning of the boats, and knowledgeable in the procedures for care and maintenance of the club’s equipment.

The most obvious and labor intensive expression of this mission usually occurs in early June as the Fleet is put in and in the late summer as the fleet is hauled out. The Committee schedules and coordinates these operations, which involve lots of cleaning, some paint touch up, and much lugging and lifting.

The Committee also maintains the inventory for the boats, takes responsibility for registrations, reports on the condition of the boats to the membership at the Annual Meeting, and schedules maintenance and repairs for the boats, trailers and engines. Other hands-on functions involve actually performing the labor to finish tillers, rudders and daggerboards in the off months ahead of the sailing season, and providing help with minor repairs in-season.
