The Adult Sailing Program is a benefit to all Club members. The Club offers without charge Two Cape Dory Typhoon sloop’s and one J-24, along with two inflatable skiffs, to members who qualify as Captains. An online reservation calendar permits advance reservations.

The purpose of the Adult Sailing Program is to offer primary instruction to novice sailors, and for more advanced sailors an opportunity to gain experience sailing in tidal waters.
To qualify as a Captain, members must have a checkout with one of the Adult Sailing Committee Co-Chairs. Once completed, a member is added to the roster of Captains and gains access to the online schedule. On the Club website there is a comprehensive, illustrated guide to the use of Rocky. New Captains are asked to review this material as part of their checkouts.
Vessels in the adult feet are generally available from launch in June to haul-out in October. In the spring, Captains are asked to volunteer for the minimal annual maintenance required to prepare the vessels for launch. In the fall, volunteers are also needed for the haul-out and preparation for winter storage. During the season, Captains are asked to serve for a week as the Captain of the Week, making sure that minor issues like filling up the outboard with gas or fixing small rigging problems are taken care of.
Using the Boats: a qualified Captain must be on board, and life jackets must be worn. The Boats are restricted to the western shore of Penobscot Bay between Rockland and Camden. Exceptions may be made for organized Club events.
