Hosting Procedures for Friday Nights

Each Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. a barbeque is hosted by a team of member volunteers: a schedule is compiled by the Club Volunteer Coordinator and posted at the beginning of the season.  Captains are Board Members or experienced Club members, assisted by Mates and Midshipmen.

The physical logistics of setting up for the barbeques are posted in the clubhouse and are straightforward.  Here is a list of the social considerations:

Captains are urged to contact members of their crews a week or more ahead of time to make sure the barbeque is on everyone’s calendar.

If there is a switch of team members, the Captain for that week needs notification ahead of time.  It is the responsibility of the scheduled person to find a substitute, not the Captain.  If there is a date switch or exchange, both affected Captains need to be informed.

One or more members of the crew should be designated to pass out name tags for all attendees, and to make sure that singles or others who are not committed to a seating group will feel welcome.  Members of the crew should have “HOST” on their name tags.

Captains and crew members need to leave seats at their tables for other Club members, especially new members, to make sure everyone has a place.  The Captain’s table and possibly other crew member should use one of the distinctively colored red tablecloths, and such tables should be in a prominent place.

Sponsors of new members are expected to invite their new members to a Friday barbeque and introduce them to other Club members.

Friday barbeques begin at 6:00 p.m.; host crews arrive at 5:00 p.m.

Hosts provide hors d’oeuvres and ice but members are encouraged to also bring something tasty to share.

Club members wishing to stay later into the evening are welcome to do so, but they need to agree with the Captain who will be responsible for putting the last tables away and locking up.

Club members are asked to display a sticker on their cars in order to park in the Club parking lot.   Stickers are available from the Membership Chairman.

Club members wishing for a key to the clubhouse or a Club burgee should contact the Membership Chairman.
