ROCKPORT BOAT CLUB


Beginner Mates JC9 ages 8-12

Class Experience:

Kids learn basic terminology, rigging and by the end of the course will be working as a team of skipper and crew to sail the boats. Each day a new skill is introduced on land and practiced on the water. Students work together in teams in these small sloops. Students learn to tack, jibe, dock and other basic sailing skills.  They will also practice capsizing in a safe and controlled way. 

Rowing, swimming, themed Fridays and adventures throughout the harbor engage the students in a dynamic learning environment. Students repeat beginning sailing classes until their skills and comfort levels are appropriate to join the afternoon program.

Class requirements:

  • No previous sailing experience is required
  • Less than 8 weeks of instruction

Beginner Mariners 420 ages 11-14

  • Students MUST weigh at least 90 pounds and be close to 5 feet tall to join the 420 class
